Implications for Western Australia of Hydraulic Fracturing for Unconventional Gas
The Western Australian Government Standing Committee on Environment and Public Affairs identified in August 2013 that the emergence of an unconventional gas industry in Western Australia was a source of community interest and concern. The committee resolved to investigate hydraulic fracturing and its implications for WA, with particular emphasis on environmental considerations.
This report was the culmination of two years of evidence gathering, research and engagement with the community through public hearings and submissions.
The Committee examined both operational and decommissioned well sites where hydraulic fracturing has occurred, giving a privileged insight into the current and potential future impact of unconventional gas mining on the Western Australian landscape.
